New Daily Driver ( not Mopar )

Post by Rebel »

Picked this up this morning, from our very own Andyrob who transported it from Kent for me.
5.0 Auto, 1990 model, amazing bodywork for its age and a very solid underside as well as a very clean interior, there's not even any wear on the seat bolsters.
Needs a battery and battery clamps and something doing with the wheels.

A huge thank you to both Andyrob for transporting it and Roger Bannister for taking time out of his day to check it out for me when I was unable to make the trip from Northumberland to Kent

They're very 90's inside, lots of plastic, comfortable seats and a 2+2 seating arrangement. Easy to live with. The engines are 4.9L Windsor V8's, sold as 5.0L. Hugely popular in the states with a massive aftermarket parts network, modifications are only limited by your budget.
Not so popular over here though, most V8 fox bodies were bought to have the engine pulled for other projects.

I only bought it to use until the Charger is back on the road Miles, wasn't planning on huge mods, just a general tidy up, make it look a little better. Then sell it on, you never know though,

I looked into one of these a while back. As you say, massive aftermarket, light car, cheap parts.. lots to enjoy. I know its not a long termer, but it would make a great base for Q car ;)

Q car ?
Sorry Miles, not sure on the term Q car

The options for mods are really unlimited, anything from relaxed cruiser to wheel standing track monster :D

Thanks Miles and Mike, understand it now.

Dave81 - you're right there, the wheels on it are from an LX model, previous owner has all the centre caps and is supposed to be sending them up to me, so at least they'll look a bit better. Still needs something better though, 5 spokes seem to be popular in all variations, I have a lovely set from my Cougar ( UK model ) but the centre hub on the wheels is smaller than the Mustang's sadly. I'm thinking something in black as the paint work is a dark shade of red.

Spent the afternoon sorting out the battery issue, borrowed the battery from the Charger for now, had cut the old lead battery clamps off, I'm guessing that Ford had placed the battery cables in an mould and poured molten lead into them to encase the wires in them permanently. They were all bashed, chipped and even cracked where the bolt goes through them. Replaced them with new pair of posh gold plated items :D ( cheap on the bay of fleas ).

Checked everything else out it looks like the old girl has been looked after properly. The engine oil is clean, very clean, looks like a new oil filter as well. All lights work apart for one fog lamp bulb and the map light on the roof panel, need to check the dash lights when it gets a bit darker outside. Rear indicators have been wired into the reversing lights, which seem a bit close to the centre of the car as their on either side of the number plate. So I'll probably change there position as we have LED's available now and put the reversing lights back.
The remote central locking works off the key fob as does the alarm  .Everything appears solid underneath, starts instantly and all the gauges work as well.
Al in all, it's a cracking car, once the wheels are changed and the paint is brought back to life ( bit flat in some places ) it'll look great, might have to lose the blue ovals though, they just look wrong on any Mustang
