Birdman's Satellite

Post by Birdman »

At the Shakey's Yank's Weekend, we found my dizzy that I had welded the slots to reduce mech advance was not advancing at all and I was stuck at 20 btdc initial timing.
Decided to order a Firecore Ready to Run dizzy with built in ecu module, adjustable mech advance and vac can. This would tidy up things being able to remove the MSD 6AL.
It arrived from Mancini Racing with a set of Firecore 50 8.5 mm spark leads ready made with 135 deg ends - all looks great.
Fit dizzy and leads, easy connections, just coil +- and switched 12v to coil + and coil -ve to rev counter. Fires up great and set initial advance to 20 btdc.
Best running ever.
Yesterday had to get Satty MOT'd, so, 30 mile drive to the MOT station next to my shared storage unit. Great, passes MOT with positive comments on how solid the car is underneath and doesn't appear to have been welded.
Start the return journey, approaching roundabout near Jnc 13 M5, 22 miles to go and the engine stops, manage to coast round and into a convenient Shell gas station. Thought possibly fuel, put more in, turns over so easy can tell NO spark. Call AA, he confirms it and get transported home - great fuel economy that way !
Stripped old dizzy and fettled slots, re-installed today and fired right up, confirmed duff ecu in Firecore dizzy.
BTW no overheating anymore - several reasons.
Heads skimmed
Rad cap not seating in ali rad - o ring fitted
Raising front of car after filling and running without cap until all air locks removed
Viscous clutch fan fitted to help low speed cooling.
Hot starting solved with new B&M starter and new f *ff battery.
See some of you at Shakey this weekend.
Chris

Nice to see the overheating sorted Chris. But that new dizzy, jeez. I'd been reading about the MSD version and problems people had had with them failing..

Well done, Chris but it sounds a bit like 2 paces forwards and one pace back.....hope you get some satisfaction on the defective Dizzy.

Let us all know how you get on with Mancini...

Yes, and everything I buy lately has some problem or other. Will pass on any news re: warranty claim.
