Holley - spacer

Post by Raminduction »

Just fitted a Holley 750 cfm - What size spacer do you lads recommend on the
440 motor between the edelbrock performer inlet and carb base ? Cant go to big because of bonnet clearance. Or will it not matter ?

A decent spacer will help boost low end torque, but do you need any more torque out of a 440?!
Unless your at the strip regularly & you got a big cam that robs low end & you wanna annihilate them 60' times then in all honesty I wouldn't bother ;)

After stripping the original inlet manifold off and removing the valley gasket it looks like a "purple" cam has been fitted at some stage. On the old set up it didn't like cruising at low speed. It idled lumpy and only seemed to come alive at higher revs. There was a 10mm spacer on the old edelbrock.

The car will get used on the strip - Dave B is going to build my lump to around the 450 mark so I'm just thinking ahead.

My advice? Dave Billy knows his 5hit, let him install all the induction ;)

Cool - I will fit what came with the kit and let Dave sort it.

Also, when fitting spacer you can run into problems with throttle and kickdown linkage scenarios unless you start buying new parts which all adds up.

I took a 10mm spacer off and Im replacing it with a 1 inch spacer after doing a little research. Clearances are perfect and everything works well. Ive also replaced the standard valley pan gasket with a Fel pro unit ( blocking heat risers off ) going to get the AFR tested and a RR session when done.

Spacers nearly always pick up power, also they prevent heat soak, makes for better hot starting.
