You can get number plates made at states plates ( just google it ), you'll need flash player to use the plate making wizard on the site. Should take 2 to 3 weeks from ordering to arriving at your address

Yes it will be okay, as the old cars used to have black/silver plates.
But have a white & yellow one just in case you are asked to change for MOT

You are permitted to have Motorcycle size letters (which is obviously smaller than car ones) on American cars due to the space constraints for the Plates. Colour is dependant on vehicle age..........

Just found this info (but there's plenty more out there if you want to check)....

http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/plates.htm

I knew there were quite specific requirements for the size of the characters but you can see there's some leeway, especially under the:

"Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles (which have a restricted space for a standard sized number plate)" section

Note that it also says:

"Vehicles constructed before 1.1.73 may display traditional style "black and white" plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate."

:thumbright:

We've had 'states plates' type plates on our '63 for about 9 years and haven't had any complaints from Matt or any of his colleagues ;)

Thanks for the info guys.

This is from the site suggested by Rob Twin

"Traditional number plates fitted to vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1973 are not required to display the mandatory character font, but the characters must be easy to read"

I would say from this that I could even have the US style lettering as well as the size of plates.

Like so........

I've had loads of plates from States Plates, either for me or friends, the business is now based in France, but the plates are still made in the UK, as Rebel as said just follow the instructions on their website, there is a contact number on the site if you need it. :thumbright:
