Small block engine braces

Do SB have braces from the sump/ block to the bell housing?
I have two holes on the bellhousing low down that have nothing in them and wonder if there should be bracing bars there and if them missing is what caused the flex plate issue?

Mr Norm said tonight there has been much discussion in the past about the need for them.

Any one got any views? I am running headers now, so not sure if there is space for the braces anyway, and i dont know what they look like.

Matt, I had to remove both of mine to fit TTI headers. Instructions said to do so.

Always removed them with no issues at all.

yep ,removed as they clash with headers
