[quote="XP29"]Thanks for that Mick. Is this the Hylomar stuff you use?

You can whip off the intake and carb in one piece just disconnect the fuel line, linkages, coil lead and wires and intake bolts and lift it all off, no water up there so no mess.

Thanks Mick and Blue. I'm going to hopefully get the car out after little un is at nursery. I need to get it on ramps and clean the underside as much as I can and give it a run. Need to get the sealants in and a new valley pan before I can do that so it will have to wait till after the Nats. Just hoping today's work has stopped the most of the leakage. :)

Just Black RTV silicone sealant.

for example. Try a search for black RTV.

No doubt some are better than others but there's a lot to choose from these days.

I have a new valley pan here now, hopefully going to get to fit it this afternoon. It came with four card/paper gaskets. From replies here and what I have seen on other sites I should not use these and just use sealant?

There is also a circular gasket, or rather two card ones and one rubber, about 1 1/2" in diameter. I'm guessing when I get my old pan off it will be obvious where these are for? If not, where? Again do I use these or just sealant?

Yep you will find there's no room for the extra paper gaskets as well. From your description I can't think what the other gaskets are for, they definately don't go under the valley pan.

O thanks. I'm going to tackle it now. If I run the sealant around, am I best to tighten it up and leave overnight or start the car so the heat cures it?

This is a pic of those round gaskets I mentioned

Something I have just noticed is there is a rectangle hole in the middle on each side. The valley pan I just took off also has holes but the new one does not. Do I need to cut these out?

Hopefully it will be clear in this photo

Looks like the heat riser holes for warming the car up. You can block those off on a small block I assume BB is the same, need someone to confirm though.

Just spread some sealer around the centre holes and use the valley pan as is it so it blocks them off.

Yes blocking off the heat risers is a good idea, keeps the intake manifold a little cooler which is a good thing most of the time.

I think the round paper gasket sits between the block and the distributor and one of the o rings is used on the distributor too. Hard to tell from the picture how big they are.

Cheers guys, I have put the Hylomar blue around the holes on the heads, around the bolt holes and edge of the pan. Also did the other side of the pan on the intake side. Also put the RTV sealant at each end of the pan making sure there was some in the corners where it meets the heads. I made sure everything was cleaned up before going back on. Only thing I am concerned is if any has squeezed out into the intake holes as its gone back together. Could this affect the fuel getting in?

Mick the O rings are about 1 1/2" ish in diameter. I couldn't see anywhere they would fit while doing the pan.
