1968 Ford 390 engine advice please

Post by Steve »

Going to look at a 1968 Ford F100 truck with a friend tomw. Anyone got any advice on what to check (other than the obvious) on the 390 FE ??

Any weak points or likely problem areas with engine and transmission that we can check please??

Seems Fords leak just as much as our Mopars!! I tried to tell Martin that 'if it dont leak theres nothing in it' but he (quite rightly) dismissed me instantly!! Ha ha.

No Dave....nice truck but didnt tick enough boxes. Needed a bit of work. Would have gone outside Martins budget to fix :thumbright:

If I'm being honest Steve, I think his particular taste and quality requirement will not match his budget. I hope he finds the one, but he'll need a slush fund whatever he chooses, and he'll need to be prepared to get his hands dirty!

If I were him I'd save another 3k and then set about looking. That should get him a late 60's early 70's V8 that should fit the bill!!! :thumbright:

Yeah Dave...we have discussed those exact points at length. Ive suggested that Martin soaks up a few more shows etc and get feel for the variety of cars out there. I dont blame him for not rushing in and he is walking away from cars / trucks that he just isnt getting that 'must have' feeling from.

I dont mind at all as we are having some great trips out and some good chill time :thumbright:
