What a dip stick

Brought a mildon dip stick and it has no marks on it :cry:

I have a crazy sump configuration so measuring the oil in isn't accurate


Can some


A. Measure from the dip stick line (oil level ) to where the dipstick tube sits flush in to block


B. They have done this and tell me where the mark it

You can do that yourself.

Fill the sump with the amount you want to run and then mark the new dipstick accordingly.

You are lucky - my KB has no provision for a dip stick!!!

Do you have to drain the oil each time you want to start it to ensure the right amount is in there? :D

I don't understand why that means you can't measure the oil in? Whatever the oil pan design, if you add X amount of oil it must only ever settle to one level surely?

as long as you have a deep and modified pickup as well

all will be well



having the oil a long way below the crank can only be of benefit.

stick the stick to the side of the block with the cap resting at the same height as the tube end.

using the edge of the sump U round the seal at the rear and the stroke of your crank estimate how low the crank webs go


draw line on your stick

and don't fill it to that level.



drive flat out round a corner and see if you oil pressure drops by 10 -20 LB

if it does

add more oil

jobs a goodun


wide sump = more oil, oil lasts longer, engine runs cooler. any surge tends to result in windage rather than pressure loss.

deep sump extended pickup by all means run the same amount of oil as standard but be safe in the knowledge that you are storing it half a mile away from the crank rather then 3 inches, less likely to surge less likely to foam more likely to rip the bottom off the sump. potential to add a bit more than standard to get some of the gains of the wide high volume sump with none of the negatives of having so much oil sloshing about inches below a crank that will not like being dragged through any slop at high RPM.

I had one of those for the engine, and tranny,

and the biggest issue was if there is a curve in the housing, pulling the stick out usually rubbed off the mark making it impossible to check the level,

hope you have better luck, I think this was built to show and not go :mytwocents:
