Hi All,
I have to replace a cross threaded stud on the front drum on my 68 Charger. How difficult is it to get it out and how easy is it to get one in.

Take off drum
if it is a plan stud with a round head its splined into the drum
hit it through with hammer
if its a stud with a half height hex head it will wind out from the inside
both involve taking off the drum
back off brake adjuster........
keep eye out for overflowing master cylinder as the brake return springs press the pistons in the cylinder back further than they have been in years

Yep normally splined through the hub and the drum. Can take a good hefty clout to get out, they can be very tight. To fit the new stud "feel" it into the spline and tap it in slightly and then fit the wheel nut on and nip it up a bit to pull the stud straight. Tap, nip, tap nip until the stud is well in and then clout it firmly home.

The front studs were frequently swaged over during installation to lock the drum and hub into one assembly. If you try to hammer or press one out you may well damage/bend the drum (I did this when I was younger and stupider) .
The way to remove a front stud that has been swaged is to use a small hole saw in a drill press to pass down over the stud thread and cut away the swaged base.
