Oxfam trying it on?

Post by Jem »

First and foremost, I just want to make it clear that I think Oxfam and what they do is fantastic. I also appreciate that they want to make as much money as possible. But..........

I can buy this on ebay for a tenner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-ZEPPELIN- ... 5b1997699a

Or the same thing from Oxfam in worse condition for £275. http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/music-film ... _100290550

This for £12.74 on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yes-Tales-Fro ... 3ce68de85c

Or the same thing from Oxfam for £75 http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/music-film ... _100317293

Our Red Cross shop is the same. Albums in a locked glass case at silly money like £80 when the same is elsewhere for a tenner. They took a 1930s cupboard from my boss which the following week was up for £95! Needless to say he doesn't donate these days. These charities say that they use professional valuers for their "better items"

You would think that before pricing something like that, they would Google it or check ebay to see what the current 'street value' of these items would be. I know they can hope that the un informed fan who just must have it will walk by but, at that money, I would suggest anyone interested would have done exactly what you did Jem before buying....research.
