THE CANNONBALL RUN MOVIE LOCATION...THEN 1981 & NOW 2014

Post by danny_duke01 »

Most of you may remember the thread i posted of the 'Smokey and the Bandit' then & now location pics when i visted the US last Oct...

Well on the same trip i also found this 'Cannonball Run' location too. I thought you might like to see how this location has changed over the last 33 years. The 'Olde English Inn' (as it was once called) is located in Decatur,Georgia,US.

*Note that the swimming pool has now been filled in and the canopy/car port roof has been taken down*

Then 1981 & Now Oct 2014

Like then and now stuff, regardless of who, what, where etc.
Back in '06 I went to Georgia and drive in to Covington, was a strange feeling, standing in front of county hall where Lee 1 made that infamous jump

Its odd being there certainly. Although Lee1 didnt jump in Covington at the town hall. Lots of filming there, but the lee1 jump was at Seney hall - a few miles out of town. Its a university I think - I went there in 2003 (and saw lee1 pre restoration!)

Cannonball plane landed in Covington square though !

One thing I am annoyed about. Having only been over there once and having watched Smokey&Bandit almost daily when I was a kid , and the cannonball run of course, I had no idea they were all so close. Most of Bandit appears to be filmed on one road !
I missed out on visiting all the bandit locations and certainly didnt know cannonball was there too. :( Might even have still been standing in 2003. grrr.

Thanks Morgan, my mistake.
I think a lot of road / car movie stuff was filmed in or close to Covington back then.
