I'm fed up of it now, so though I'd buy a sender.
When I eventually found one and it was over £100, I thought I'd try to fix the old one!
I worked out that the variable resistor contacts have worn away. My fix was to move the thing closer to the pivot so the slider ran on the unworn part. I glued it into place and it looked ok. It was tricky to test but it ran from 23-154 ohms.
I pressed it back together and it immediately stopped working.
It did this a few times til I gave up and came in to sulk and drink cider. Bloody bloody bloody!
Options are- bite the bullet and fork out the £100 (unlikely)
Put up with no fuel gauge again (not keen)
Find a variable resistor bit from somewhere and Bananarama! together
