Jeff is very kindly trying to source me a 4 speed trans in Canada.

Question - will an 18 spline A833 fit a 1970 383 Magnum Challenger R/t or does it need to be 23 spline?

Provided you have an 18 spline clutch, yes! The clutch centre plate is the only thing that's specific, everything else will fit if you are changing from a 23 spline.

From the factory only 440s & hemis came with the 18 spline but as Blue says you can fit one to anything with the matching clutch. I have an 18 spline behind my 360.

My 70 charger was a 383 4 speed from the factory with a 23 spline long tail shaft dual mount and hurst pistol grip shifter which was 1970 only
