Just out of idle curiosity... My torque conv which works fine is VERY keen to hook up / change up. Ages ago on a 'wake it up a bit thread' it was suggested that a higher stall converter may give the illusion of being more lively.
I'm not talking drag-launch levels here.
The reading I have done doesnt help much. Lots of talk about understanding cam profiles and toque curves etc etc - all aimed at the hardened racer. From my point of view though its the sloppy bit between the engine and the transmission. The only variables are when and how hard it locks up.
So. Streetable car owners. What are you running and what are the characteristics ?

Running a coan converter 11 inch 2800 stall.
But when cruising it's not sloppy.
But that's just my view.
It's all depending on the torque your engine makes.
Also weight of car has large effect.
Just received a new custom made converter from Coan based on engine specs and my car specs.

All I know is that a convertor that is too loose is ten times better than a convertor that is too tight. You have no chance of tuning the motor if there is insufficient stall.
My Bee stalls at 4000rpm IF I put it in 3rd at 20mph and then nail it; but when do you drive like that? Under almost all circumstances the car dives fine.
If your motor drops 400rpm or so when you put in "D" from "N" or "P" then you will never get the idle adjustment right and the car will always want to creep or stall......

I'll try and keep this simple. The convertor needs to match the cam for best performance and drivability no matter what you are using the car for. If your cam produces more torque than stock, you use a higher stall convertor, to restore the balance. The end result is a convertor that acts pretty much like the stock convertor did, except when you stand on it it will allow the engine to rev into it's powerband much faster.
