Brake line distribution block

Post by Rebel »

Does the distribution block need to be attached to the lower front chassis rail or can it be moved to a higher position and still work properly?

I can't think of any reason why it can't be moved to a higher position.

Great, was just concerned that the brake pipes all had to be a measured length to work effectively.
Thanks Mick

My B body has it on the lower firewall. The length of pipe isn't the issue. Any issues would be related to the diameter and also the diameter/type of master cylinder. If that's not being changed, can't see a problem.

I ditched this and put a Triumph type one on which got rid of the shuttle arrangement inside which is a sort of safety arrangement to bring a light on if one of the brake circuits fail. Not sure if this is the same thing you are talking about?

I'm changing from manual drums all round to manual discs up front with a new master cylinder, all from wilwood. Also replacing all brake pipes with standard copper pipe and adding a linelok.

It's the brass block that the brake pipes from the master cylinder go into, then the rest of the pipes go from it to the front and rear of the car.

You can mount it anywhere you like, preferably below the height of the master cylinder. Mines actually inside the car because I've used an aftermarket one that has an adjustable brake bias valve built in, and I wanted that within arms reach.

Thanks Blue, I've got a separate bias valve to add, just trying to figure out where to put everything so it looks tidy as well as being easy to get to for any future work.

I didn't bother re-fitting mine when I fitted front discs. I just fitted the proportioning valve that came with the kit.

Really? did you just run the pipes from the master cylinder straight to the discs / drums, did you split them with a "T" piece to get to each wheel?

From the MC to a line-lock then onto a t-piece then to each front caliper. The proportioning valve was fitted to the chassis under the drivers seat in line with the brake pipe to the axle. I can reach the adjuster while sitting in the drivers seat.

That distribution block is a safety item. If the rear brakes leak it will close them off so you can drive home with front and vice versa. The wire that plus onto it is to light up the brake light on the dash to tell you there is a issue.

Wire?, there's a wire? Think it must be missing from mine. When I took it off, there was just brake pipes attached to it, no wire and there's no loose wires just hanging around that area.
Is it a ring terminal that goes on with a nut or is it more like a spade / bullet connector?
Does the wire go from the block to the brake light switch or somewhere else?
