Insurance agreed values

Post by GeneralWee »

How do people feel about their agreed insurance values - I had my Charger valued at £25k some years ago but classics seem to be well on the move upward - worth getting it reappraised?

I dunno. Depends how good your charger is. Mines still sitting at £18K which is probably a little on the low side given the sheer number of spangly bits. I'll be revisiting this year I think.

There's been a thread on values recently. 68 RT went for £30K and that looked pretty clean if not super-mint. Boggo charger 25 might be OK, yet there is a general on ebay for 55 so who's to say ? (TonyO. Thats who ! Get it reappraised if its weighing on your mind).
"Cum homine de cane debeo congredi." Woof.

Current Charger status - "Working and awesome" \:D/

And remember... Some of the classic car insurance companies in the uk advertise agreed value... Does not mean they will pay that amount out.

Not entirely correct if the vehicle has been apparasied by the insurance assessor or an independent with a written confirmation of a agreed value the insurer will have to pay out.
Speaking as a ex assessor.

Ask you insurance company for a letter that states it will pay out the full amount stated. I only ever found one that would write such a letter.

In the UK at least, if your car has an agreed value then if it is a total loss, you will be paid out the pre agreed amount.

If you do not have an agreed value, you battle to prove how much the car is worth if it is a total loss.

If you have an expensive on a trade policy, that is risky, total loss could be less than what your car is 'worth'.
