who's on it then?

I use it for work as chefs like bragging Bananarama! about their food and put a pic up, if it's on stuff from me and looks good I spread the word.

I also follow some of the car types.

BUT 95% of it is dribble and bitching at people

I don't follow these Kanye types but why do I still see their gumph in my feeds

I lurk. Its the only one I do (no facetube!)

I follow 'you had one job', 'darwin awards', 'history in pictures', 'sniffpetrol' and the old top gear gang.

Darwin awards are always worth a look. They often get posted with the tagline 'Meanwhile, in russia...' and then there is a clip of some jet-engine-on-a-shopping-trolley or something.
Worth a five minute look. But I dont follow any people i know - I dont care if you are eating toast. Unless we are doing it together. In which case I will know you are eating toast. QED.

I would assume that the people who got divorced would have done so regardless of Facebook and social media.

Possibly Andy but they started getting in touch with 'old friends' etc and one thing led to another as they say. Old flames became a problem etc and caused friction.

My wife is very hard working etc but since she discovered facebook to spy on old friends from a distance, the gossip meter has gone into overdrive! Its as close as she has ever got to having a hobby.....pretty sad in my old fashioned book. Though we have rediscovered the pictures (cinema for the under 30s)

Another thing I forgot....employers do open source internet searches on people who go for jobs.....much to the alarm of my 17year old daughter who thinks its ok to get into slagging matches on twitter or whatever it is with her mates. Couple of seconds on google and I found out about a fight they all had on holiday and the fact that she cant get out of bed in the morning so packed college in!

If I was an employer, she wouldnt get through a paper sift for a job delivering newspapers let alone a job that will see her through life in the style she expects!

This is a huge problem that the current generation just dont seem to understand. Stuff on the internet (like this I am typing RIGHT NOW) is there forever [potentially]. I have no control over it, I dont know where it is held, where it is backed up, how many copies there are etc - my typing and meandering is now OUT OF MY CONTROL. Years from now person or persons unknown can 'process' all this stuff. Alright, its a daft example but my point is I simply dont understand why people are not more scared of the internet. We have NEVER lived in an age like this where everything you ever communicate is 'reviewable'. A conversation on the internet is not the same as a conversation in the pub yet people treat it thus.

Its all a bit worrying really. Its just I am the only one who worries about it.

I think thats spot on....the only saving grace we have is that im guessing that what most of us say and do on the web is of little or no interest to anyone.

I use internet banking all the time and I rarely even think about the security implications of identity theft etc.....sure its only a matter of time before someone hacks my bank and takes half of the five fifths of F all thats in there!

I disagree, I think the thing about Social Media and as we all know, all online interaction as with forums like ours, is that it's remote and to a certain extent "not real". It doesn't have the reality of being in front of somebody and saying the same things, there's no body language or tone of voice and usually it's conducted in a safe remote environment such as our homes.

I believe that this allows emotions to creep up without the same self control, be they anger, lust, spitefulness, bullying, whatever. A haven for trolls, predators, groomers, bullies and paedophiles!
