Erratic rev counter

Post by MilesnMiles »

I have an Aotometer tacho that has worked perfectly for past 2 years. I fitted an FBO ignition kit (new coil) and the rev counter has become erratic. at worst, the revs go down as i acelerate and return to normal showing as i lift off the throttle.
i have re-connected the wire from the tacho to the coil 3 times without success.
Any ideas?

is it possible that the coil is drawing so much current that there's not enough of a signal goin to the tach?!?

Miles take a look here http://www.autometer.com/default.aspx, got some good tech pages

Don tells me there are no problems with the FBO kit and Autometer tachs

I used to get tach Bananarama! at idle, swapped the ecu and all was good, I doubt it will be an FBO ecu fault but maybe swap it out to check?

Looks like some testing required. Seems odd given that only one wire was involved and it is connected soundly. i guess i'll re-fit the original parts and see if it returns to normal. Wiring.. the curse of the unseeable!! (but, not the untestable :? )
