Dissy I.D. help please

Post by db »

This came in a box of parts I bought from the States.
Aside from pulling mine out and trying it, how do I tell if this is a smallblock or big block dissy?

I have a 440 one of those, if you take some measurements I can compare.

They are hellish expensive to repair, as in not cost effective.....

Ta mate, so there's no obvious difference?
I'll have a measure tomorrow. No idea if it works but it looks ok. If it's a BB one I'll flog it

There was one in the Valiant when I got it, the module was faulty causing a misfire, new module was nearly as much as a new dizzy..

I don't know of a way of Identifying it without measuring from mounting face to end of drive tang. Small block, 383 & 440 will all be different lengths.

Cheers Steve. So this is for a 'B' motor then.

Pinched and pasted here...

Mopar Distributor Identification by Shaft Length
Measured from mounting surface to end of distributor shaft.

Mopar LA engine – 3 7/8″
Mopar B engine – 3.5″
Mopar RB engine – 4″
Chrysler 331/354 Hemi – 4.25″
Chrysler 392 Hemi – 4.5″
Dodge 241/260/270 Hemi – 3 7/8″
Dodge 315/325 Hemi – 4.25″
Desoto 276/291 Hemi – 4.00″

Take care when swapping distributors as the rotation is not always the same.
