So with reverse seeming to slip/disappear on me, I topped-up fluid a tad (about 300ml) and decided I would give her a drive around the block to test.
Well, didn't go well as by the time I had got it out the barn, reverse was almost non-existent, only possible at extremely low revs on no competing incline. Once engaged and travelling, she will go backwards.
So it now appears as Mr Bishop has said that the band/s will need tightening.
It's a 340 3-speed, so I assume (possible wrongly) that it's a 727 Torqueflight - is it ?
Could it be another transmission ? just asking as I will need to order up a new gasket for the sump - sadly, she sits quite low and as yet I don't have ramps, so not able to get a good view.
I shall have ramps next week which I'm borrowing off a mate, but I can always send a gasket back if it's wrong.
Anyone here carry gaskets for these boxes ?
While on the subject, the manual says that the lock-nut has to be torqued - can I just "snugg it up" as no torque wrenches on hand - if need be, I shall purchase some.
Are there any special tools needed?
Manual sounds self-explanatory, drain, open, tighten band, new gasket, close, refill and done - any pitfalls ?
I'm good with my hands but not a trained mechanic.
thanks
