...... um, folks ..... am I missing a bit of engine housing

Post by Garp »

I might be being totally dumb here, but whilst under the Challenger today I saw a piece of the flywheel I don't think I should be able to see !
It looks like, due to the way my exhausts are configured, a bit of "shroud" has been removed or ommited ?
My worry of course is that a stone or stray bolt from the car in front bouncing down the road and getting in here would be terminal
:help:
Also, surely there must be some lubricants in here - I've had several Landies and there's grease galore on them, but with nothing to protect them from the elements, they'd just erode/perish.

Any ideas folks - not sure I want to carry on running around without my "knickers" like this ...

thanks in advance ...

From the factory there should be a sheet metal cover, it's often missing and I always took 'em off to get some air to the convertor, don't sweat it. Unless you're going offloading or driving through floods of course...

It's also a good opportunity to keep an eye on those converter bolts making sure there nice and tight because they do work loose :thumbright:

Mines currently on the garage floor. I deliberately left it off for most of the reasons stated above.

I'm gonna fashion up some light expanded ali' and do a cover that allows air but nothing else .... it'll just look more complete that way. Don't know who I'm kidding as she's no trailer queen and the only person likely to be underneath is me, but I'll sleep better.
