Speedo not working after trans refit

Post by MilesnMiles »

When I refitted the speedo I left the drive unit in the transmission and just unscrewed the cable inner/outer. Refit and no speedo.
Looked again this evening and found I could pull the inner forward about a quarter inch. Bolted it all back up but still no speedo.
Worked perfectly before being disturbed.
Any tricks or tips on what I might have missed?

The Speedo drive housing in the Box is on an elliptical centre, you can jack the car up, put on stands, drop it in gear, undo the single bolt clamp and then rotate the drive housing until it meshes correctly with the helix on the output shaft (or whatever). Otherwise it is trial and error.

Yes, you can burn yourself on the pipes - I have a permanent scar on my right hand off the Daytona, nice keepsake.

Yes Pete, I have done that in the past.
I actually left that part in the tans for when Anton rebuilt it. Is it the case that I need to pull the drive gear and relocate it as you suggest, not just plug the cable back into the end of the speedo drive?

I dunno, you just have to work the problem and go through a process of elimination. The cable could have rounded off or the drive may not be meshing.
