So my star mate Doug came round earlier and between us we got the fuel tank out and emptied it.
The tank underside had a bit of rust! I got my co2 tank from the welder and flushed then filled the fuel tank. I put my leading skills to good use and it's hopefully fixed :thumbright:
I'll test it in the morning, fingers crossed!

Well, this has been a dry thread for a while.
I've mainly just been driving the Truk and waiting for it to slowly rot into the ground...

I eventually got fed up of the constant running water through the cab so I tackled the roof the other day. Lots of grinding, sealant and fibreglass, some rust killing and a slap of paint. NO water now enters through the roof or windshield.
It is still pouring in from somewhere though! :P

I've also had no wipers for a few weeks due to the motor (which I bodged several years ago) packed in again.
I was sent a used one, which also turned out to be faulty. I decided a couple of days ago to see if I could build one good one out of the two.

Motor 1-
Rusted case which I'd previously welded and which has now rotted a lot more.
Semi-seized bronze bushes
Bearing retainers broken
Broken braid on one motor brush (this is why it stopped)
Rubber mounts disintegrated
Motor 2-
Motor jammed solid with rust
One motor magnet disintegrated
Motor brush springs rusted to nothing
One motor bolt sheared (They're aluminium fer chrissakes!!!)
Plastic wiring module thing fell apart

Luckily I've salvaged enough parts to cobble a good motor together.
This link is fantastic- http://www.passion4mopars.com/Bench-Tes ... d_b_5.html

I tested it and it still didn't work. I took the motor cover off and found on brush had stuck in it's guide. Bugger!
The armature was also tight in the bearing so I pulled it out, which broke the bronze bush retainer. Double bugger!!
So that's it for this evening. I have a cunning method for repairing the retainer which you can see I've done in pic 2 to another one. This one, however, is in the bottom of a metal case surrounded by magnets so it's hard to reach and everything gets grabbed by the bloody magnets!

You should live in Cuba, you would have a new trade.

Great stuff.

People don't seem to "Do" stuff any more, its all "where can I buy a new light bulb and who can fit it for me?" nowadays.

It works! :D
It put up a fight, it took me an hour to get the bush retainer in place. The 20th time the bloody thing pinged and stuck to the magnets it very nearly got hurled through the window!

Well I've used the wipers a few times now and they work great! Quiet too!!

After all my work on the roof and the screen surround to seal out the rain... it's still pours in :P

Also it seems worried about it's weight. It's shed a couple of pounds.
I hope it was nothing important

Yes Drew, it was dangling from some wires when I found it. Luckily the wires are stronger than the steel
