Road tax advice
Looks like I'm returning to the hell that is too tax. I could use some advice of anyone knows the answer.
Example
I buy a car on the last day or so of the month (28/29). At the point of sale any existing tax is null and void.
Does that mean I have to pay for the whole months tax even though most of the month has passed?
I'm aware of how to tax on line etc 24 hour system, just wondered bout the above scenario.

You will always have to pay road tax from the beginning of the currant month no matter at what point in the month you do it. This new system of road tax where it becomes null when a vehicle is sold will always have an element of overlap where 2 people are paying tax on the same vehicle on the month it is sold unless it's at the beginning or end of a month.

The loophole with the new tax rules is to only advise them that the vehicle has changed hands by signing and posting the logbook. If the logbook is posted first thing Monday morning, the earliest they'll get it is Tuesday, gives you 24hrs to drive it home on existing tax, it'll show as taxed on all systems ( incliding ANPC's ) until they get the logbook.
Just ignore the whole tax it online / by phone idea.
Of course if you're buying a vehicle on 28 / 29 of month, you might just be lucky enough to have found something that the current tax is about to expire on, which would be perfect. You'd be able to tax it from the 1st of the following month and get the full 6 or 12 months without losing out

I just sold a car and had been paying the road tax by DD, the day i sold the car i had to notify the DVLA ( via online site) that I am no longer the owner so the DD on that vehicle would immediately stop but in doing that I had to give them the new owner details so from that moment on the new owner was responsible for the road tax. It also stated the log book should not be sent back as a new one would automatically sent to the new owner via the details I had given. The only way around it would be if I didnt give the new owner details until the following day so giving him time to take the car home, he wanted me to wait until the end of the month to tell them but i refused as I would be paying for that car and the new car.

Your not wrong Miles I have just bought a 5.0 XKR Jag as my daily £500 a year road tax but the supercharged 510bhp makes it worth itMilesnMiles wrote:Sigh...
Still cheaper than trying a Sklyline, M3 or Nissan350 all of which I considered before returning to the yank fold.
