Just found this on the computer....Happy Days! For reference we used to call Nitrous "Drugs"
MoparKev’s EuroNats 06 Report
Yawn! 5.30am sees me and Philth (who’s stayed over the night) getting up and getting with it! Meet Chris MulDutch in his Chally ‘Vert and Blue and Gem in the support Transit in Hertford @ 7. Smooth ride up around the lanes (won’t mention Chris nearly rear ending the Sherbert when he took his eye off the road for a second!) Arrive outside the ‘Pod @ 8.30ish and join the queue. 9.20 sees us in and in our spot in the old bike pits, specially reserved by TrevD and his caravan of love (got there at 4.30am to be 2nd in the queue!) Set the new big tent up then think about scoring some drugs. Philth and meself zoom out heading for Websters for a fix. 10 minutes later and we’re well lost. Numerous calls to Mr Webster sees us there and getting pumped up on drugs. Stop off at the Shell and gas up on Optimax and get some free bags. Zoom back to the ‘Pod and the following ensues; “Yeah, I got lost getting drugs!” “There’s drugs available over there (MotorShack 01926633379) near the stands” “Yeah, but it’ll be at a premium” “Naaah! £5 a Pound!” Double Doh! I’ve done £10 in gas and paid half a nugget over! Get the ‘Cab race ready; slicks on, exhaust off, drop some timing out for the 100hp drugs etc. (Main changes since Shakey in May are a proper 4 branch manifold for the drivers side and a low first gear set in the 904) Queue up for the track. BANG! We’re off and running with a disappointing 13.104@102.46. (Best of 13.06@105 last year @ the Nats). Crewchief Philth is on the way back to the pits, but I decide on a baseline back up run anyways. Back at the pits we have a fiddle with the jetting and timing. Back out and let the party begin! 12.815@104.14. After a few years trying, the little 318 that was found and dug out of a field, put in and run as is, has cracked the 13s and sailed into the 12s. The 12 second cigars are smoked. Hang on! Looking at the second baseline back up slip shows a 12.860@104! Doh! We all missed the proper celebration! Fiddled with the timing/jetting and ran 12.884@103.95 and 12.841@104.14. (4 x 12.8s in a row is alright by me!) Track closes and it’s time to drink the 12 second bottle of wine. Me, Philth, Blue and Muldooney attempt it. 12 seconds go by with a 3 second slug each, still half a bottle left! Someone comes up with the good idea of backing the first run up! Schlurp! S’all gone! After a bite to eat it’s party time. Loaded up with WifeBeater loaded into one of the free bags from Shell, we take the blow-up beer tent by storm………then get told it’s no bottles, finish the ones you have and that will be alright. OK, Guv! Except Blue who is exercising his right to drink responsibly. Big Bouncer; “Is that still the same bottle?” Blue; “Yep!” BB, ten minutes later; “Is that STILL the same bottle?” B; “Yep!” BB, another ten minutes later; “Is that really STILL the same bottle?” B; “Yep!” BB; “So how come it’s miraculously refilled itself?” Blue was subsequently escorted from the tent! Bit o’ singing went down then off to the Taxi. Back to the ‘Cab for a party, Malcolm Budgie christens it the Gay Bar. About 2ish Security make an appearance, “Turn it down, or Turn it off!” 4 visits later and about 4ish we take the advice and call it a night. Saturday saw me sorting some Nitrous and tuning issues with other cars. Thought I’d go out late as the track was open ‘til 9 (Cool Air!). Finally got out at 18.27;13.2@103? then a 14.780@89??, something is not right! Test the NOS system, find a leak and find that my bottle has lost all it’s pressure. Revert to my original bottle and all seems well. Go out again; 21.346@54 much to the delight of that commentator bloke! (and the /6 boys!) Back to the pits; I only forgot to reconnect the Nitrous solenoid! Doh! All hooked up, go again and get a 12.92@102.4 , that’ll do! Ran a few more times but nothing special. Saturday night saw me out lateish just catching the end of Chris’s band and a few double vodka red bulls. Party on with Slurry Muscle after the band than it all goes blank! Sunday sees me fiddling with more nitrous and varied problems for other people, but I still got to watch some racing, for the first time ever at a Nats! Pack it all up, cruise on home, think about next year………..Big old thanks to the organisers! Fantastic event, as usual. Big thanks to Philth; crewchief, and Blue for selling me that radiator 6 yrs ago and just mentioning in passing that my axle wasn’t very strong and I’d need an 8 ¾ and he just knew where one was and if you’re doing that you may as well mini-tub it and move the springs inboard, and if you can’t re-install the rear seats you may as well put some race seats in, to match the tiny metalflake steering wheel that turns yer (lighter) manual steering box he sold me! Etc Etc Blue is a danger! Or a guru!. You decide……………………
