Shipping options?

Post by MilesnMiles »

Ok, I just need two short exhaust pipes from Walker exhaust US.

Rock auto quote was a ridiculous £80 (parts value is just £25)

Summit was £50

Im sure in the past when I've used UK importers they have pretty much quoted the dollar as a pounds amount I.e. $30. = £30 as they buy and ship in bulk. In recent years I've shipped direct but now questioning the wisdom of that.
Anyone know if this is still the case?

Steve Lang does dollar/pounds and has weekly shipments from Summit etc.

or if time is not an issue Ron (Sts imports) is your man.

When I imported the dyno max/Walker exhaust for my mustang, it was still half price of the equivalent bought in the UK.
Thant came from Rock auto, yes the postage was high , but the parts price was cheap, and overall much cheaper than sourcing from the UK

I am shipping in a double cat back to headers system from Rockauto which is good value.
I then later realised that I needed the extra pipes and that's what has stung the shipping total. Just seems disproportional

Years ago I used Chris at WASP and it was pretty much dollar to pounds very time. These items are two short exhaust pipes of about 14-16" lengthy. Doesn't need a container :)

I have found Rock Auto shipping prices to be OK if you are getting the items from a east coast warehouse, if they are coming from the west coast , they are much more expensive.
I 'm guessing your parts are coming from 2 separate warehouses, and that puts the shipping costs right up ( 2 shipping costs)

Not even, Johnny, same place. More to the point, Summit were a whole £30 cheaper. Rockauto are you listening?

That's strange,
although I have bought parts from them before, and ordered something for about $12 I didn't need , and that made the shipping for all the items a lot cheaper !!!!

How does that work ?

Might be worth looking at Miles ?

I have also noted that just recently the Rockauto Shipping prices have gone through the roof. Its also becoming increasingly hard to get a bulk order sorted from one warehouse.

Ordered a Bunch last week including 2 identical engine mount bushes. Two different suppliers and both were listed at separate warehouses. Order went up £20 for a £5 part.

Not sure how much longer ill be using them as Summit and other suppliers are becoming comparable in terms of final ££.

If your not in a hurry Summit I-parcel is nice and simple, all tax and duty paid their end and good shipping cost. No nasty customs charges when you receive your parts :thumbright:

Yes, I use the Iparcel facility and its been good. Its just that this time the shipping and taxes are twice the value of the item and it makes no sense. Hence hoping for $ to & ratio.

That's a shame as Ron (sts imports) packed a container yesterday, don't know when the next one is. I've also noticed that rock auto have changed the way they price shipping, an aluminium & plastic radiator for a Ram was £126 shipping!
You can't have too much power, only a lack of traction!

I've got a funny feeling the business has changed hands.
The shipping prices have gone through the roof.
