Flame Thrower III coil with Ignitor II

Post by Powermyster »

Anyone know of any reason why you can't use an Pertronix Flame Thrower III coil with an Ignitor two unit.

The paper work with the coil says it should not be used, though I can't see why not. Hoping to fit all over the coming days. I just want to tidy a bit of botched wiring up first.

It will probably be due to primary resistance of the coil

Coils of 0.5 - o.8 ohm primary resistance usually used with HEI modules

The spec sheet will spell it out
On my phone so finding the spec is a pain

I sorted it, I was sure I read the flamethrower III was compatible, the paperwork wasn't very clear seems you can run it with the ballast resistor. I got a flamethrower II as I wanted rid of the resistor.

Flamethrower III there for a one who wants it👍

flame thrower III has primary resistance of 0.32 ohms

very very low

the ignitor II expects 0.6 ohm coil

the III could be used with a ballast of any size you like to make it perform with your ignitor ii, would suggest a 0.3 - 0.5 ohm ballast would do the trick.

ignitor iii would work will with flame thrower 4 pin hei module but might be a bit much for standard HEI module which want to see 0.5 ohm
