I assume it is like a grown up Block in that it has part time oiling to the top end - one bank oils at about 22 degrees ATDC and then all the way round to about 240 degrees or thereabouts.
A BB oils anti-clock, I assume a SB is Clock but not sure....

We got sparks!
I've just tested to the king lead by wiggling the rotor arm so I've proved the dissy is good. It still works with the tach wire connected so that ain't the problem.
Either it was just it's time to die, or the retard caused it somehow. I'll need to study how I wired it, I may have got something wrong.

New oil pressure fitting fitted.
Dissy etc refitted.
Car started
Obviously not straightforward...
First attempt got a backfire and flaming carb.
Pulled dissy, spun it 180*.
Second attempt got a backfire and flaming carb.
Pulled dissy and oil pump drive. VERY carefully checked alignment again. Checked I'd got tdc right on cylinder #1. Rechecked plug leads.
Third attempt... Yeah you guessed it
Fourth attempt I tried turning the dissy about 10* each way and whaddya know - the MSD ignition likes around 8-10* more advance than the Mallory!
My timing gun is bust so I can't check it tonight.
Good news is the oil leak is fixed. Bad news is there's oil oozing put of a rear drum- bloody axle seal leaking AGAIN

Mind you, it's a very friendly garage so it's not a big surprise
I've tuned the timing and idle to suit the new Mallory Streetfire and it runs like a dream! The multiple spark thing at low rpms has cleaned up the carburation and it starts, idles and pulls away much more smoothly now.
There's no noticeable difference at full noise over the Mallory unit.
The timing is quite different- I made this marker plate to help line up the dissy, the right-hand mark is for the Mallory and the left one for the MSD.
With Dave999's advice, I opened up the faulty box.
There's nothing obviously burnt, broken or swollen, so I got my meter out and started measuring. One of the first things I checked was the transformer and the primary side (red wires) measures 0 ohms- definitely not right!
So thanks Dave, I have a chance of fixing it now, I just need to find somewhere to buy a matching replacement transformer, or maybe get it rewound?
I've got the Mallory retard wiring worked out now (luckily they write what each wire does on the circuit board- shame you have to open the units up to find out!)
I have it mounted next to the MSD and the wiring prepped so IF I decide to use the N2O at the Nats I can plug it in in seconds.
I currently have an axle shaft out, the leak has re-appeared, big style!
New bearing should arrive today from Hausers.
The sump is seeping again too but that's manageable, for now!

The Nats- we had a fantastic time with the car. It ran great, never broke, the only issue was time- aside from a top-end check each morning and adjusting the clutch, I didn't touch a thing
We did 25 runs, 10 of which were with a passenger. Best time 12.7, best speed 109.
I know I can do a lot better- I was knackered due to a non-sleeping baby and a bad head each morning. Also the car needed fettling- it had a huge bog off the line, this worsened as I launched at higher rpms (3000 on Friday, 5000 by sunday!) So some changes to the secondary pump needed.
My mate bought me a fill of my nitrous bottle for my birthday! We tried it but due to a sticky fuel regulator and the retard issues we couldn't get it to work.
So the last few days I've been faffing around, as I do when I'm stuck on something, to give myself a bit of thinking time...
I had a spare nitrous solenoid so I've plumbed that in as a purge. I've stripped out a bit of redundant wiring, tidied and taped up the engine bay loom for the first time, much nicer!
So while looking for a replacement retard unit, thinking mine must be faulty, I found the wiring diagram for the MSD version. This has the same wire functions, just different colours!
I worked out I'd connected the wrong one of 2 green wires. I swapped them, connected it up and it fired! Yaay!
So I called Kai (my drugs supplier
) and out we go for the first blast, just with 50hp jets. I booted it in 3rd at around 50mph. It felt faster, but not dramatic enough to be certain. 2nd time, I booted it with the nitrous off, then switched it on mid-boot. Yes, definitely a noticeable kick there...
Right, straight home for the 100hp jets!
F*** me, NOW we can feel it! That gave it a proper rush. Gave it a few squirts in 3rd-4th on the A55, then I came off and pulled it around to a steep uphill sliproad. No traffic... We did a rolling start in 1st and nailed it through all 4 gears. OOF! Yeah, that did it! I've not stopped grinning since
The motor seemed perfectly happy.
With the 50 jets I dialled in 4* retard, afr at wot was 10.2-ish.
With the 100 jets, I dialled 6*, afr was 9-ish.
Does that sound right? I'd expect it to richen the mixture with the nos but I've not seen any figures to know how much to expect.
The fuel reg is set at 6psi.
Did I mention I'm still grinning? Oh, and I do have some 150hp jets... I may have to price up forged pistons soon...
