Help with carb/intake parts

Post by ChrisN34 »

Hi guys, im planning on getting a new carb as mine is knackered, i have almost no knowledge on carbs or how to install what parts i need etc.

Real Steel have some of the parts, but im unsure if they have them in stock (gonna phone tomorrow) does anyone know if real steel have items in stock or do they order from the US.

Anyway, currently have a stock mopar 318, with a stock carter 2bbl carb and air cleaner. I Plan to get a Holley 600cfm 4bbl carb - 4160 (vacuum secondaries manual choke)

Im looking for a manifold, Real Steel only have the Edlebrock Performance for the 318 (they have some more that say 318 with the 340/360 heads, would they be fine to use on a stock 318)

Now can i use the Holley on the Edlebrock. I Noticed the Performer Edelbrock is spread-bore, will i need to get an adapter?

On to the carb. I Have no idea what i need for this. Ash Rawson (APRBodyworks and ashley on here) is currently doing some bodywork on the car and some engine/trans work too, he mentioned i need new fuel lines, throttle linkage and and top end gaskets. Where can i get these, preferably in the UK and what do i actually need. What fuel lines do i need, what sizes etc? Is the throttle cable a single item or is a few different bits? I Dont know what actually comes with the intake and the carb, do i need new gaskets? Will phone real steel tomorrow to see what they come with, but would i also need to get some bolts for the intake, i noticed on the holley website they have carb bolts and the air cleaner screws will i need this too.

I Know im clueless with a lot of this stuff, but cheers for any help you can give.

First you will need to check the casing number on your heads to make sure they are 318 heads and have not been changes for 360 heads in the past. This is common practice on a 318.

Edelbrook performer manifold are good but I would get a square bore one for the holley carb.
You will need the following items.
Holley carb. (I used a 650 double pumper with choke horn cut off on my 318)
Carb stud kit. If you use a spacer get longer bolts.
Carb base gasket
Holley pump cam kit to adjust the carb
Inlet manifold gasket set
Holley kick down adapter bracket
You should be able to use your existing throttle cable
Dropped base air filter housing and filter.

PS: clean the carb out before you use it they often have dirt in them from manufacture.

Call Mark at WASP and he can get all of this for you.
