Ford AOD query
Sorry guys, Ford thing but as the MOCGB is virtually useless for info, can anyone with Ford experience answer the following query for me?
Need info on AOD shift patterns.
I'm trying to discern what sort of valve body or shift kit my AOD trans has.
If anyone runs or has run a stock AOD I need to know what gears D offer.
I.e does D offer 1,2,3 of just second gear???
Currently if I shift from 1-D it will hold second gear indefinitely.
I haven't yet indulged the 1-D-1 shuffle and the above info will help me.
The AOD only has three forward positions 1, D, OD

Thanks Andy, but I really don't want to rebuild it. Already had tha with a 727 last winter!
I just need someone who's run a bone stock AOD to let me know what gears are available in D as mine sticks in second which I believe is part of a modification which then allows me to shift back into First to get third gear.
Yes I know, wierd Ford system huh?
Still with overdrive I still got 21mpg cruising at 80 odd for hours. Allegedly. The speed that is (officer), the mpg is correct

Well pardon us all to hellMilesnMiles wrote:Mike I put a post on there weeks ago. 140 views and no reply. Meets my criteria of useless.

Not withstanding just a small amount of googling from my work desk, which blocks nearly everything of any use on the net, reveals some AoD'ers put in a manual valve body (Lentech appears to be popular), some swap to the earlier, more basic & arguably better on the strip C4 which is lighter with less parasitic loss.
The rest bung in a T5.

Yes quite, an the best valve bodies have a switchable OD which would allow me to hold it in third and switch to OD.
The reason I didn't race at the weekend is because the car changes from third to OD at just 3,500rpm. If it is switchable I can hold third to any rpm for racing/performance.
A quick shuffle through congested traffic here in surf city was quite revealing.
First is only first ( no second)
Second is first and second only (no third)
Must be a valve body change then.
I'm currently tracing a switch next to the shifter to a wire that goes into the trans and I think could be the switchable OD aspect.
Switch has no effect so now checking the voltage. Might get a result from this yet!

Just a thought Miles, it might be worth joining (or getting Cathy to join) this facebook group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/FoxDoctorsUK/
It might prove more Fox body friendly than the modern-Mustang oriented MOCGB forum!

Yes Andy, I will do, probably today.
Info you provided was helpful thanks. It looks as if someone had fitted one of the more expensive valve bodies with solenoid switched OD lockout. Unfortunately, the solenoid must be shot as the switch and wiring to the trans shows 12v.
This means I can't hold onto third gear as it still wants to move into OD at just 3,500 rpm. Not good for trips down the street.
