Author makes the point that guys are buying their way into the car scene and haven't paid their dues. I'd like to agree and in some cases it's true, but it's also equally true that many long time car guys that have paid their dues just want an easier time with a car and instant muscle is now available for those with the funds available.

Even so, I rarely venture onto the Mustang owners forum due to the endless discussion on which way the wheels should point on your latest £30,000 pony car.

This arguement has been going on forever. Read the letters page in an old copy of Hot Rod from the late 60's, and you'll find complaints about rich kids in there Roadrunners and Chevelle "factory hot rods" buying thier way into the scene rather than dragging some hulk out of a field and building it themselves. It meant nothing then, it means nothing now, the world has been going to hell in a handcart ever since Adam was a boy and we still havn't got there yet...

Always satisfying when having spent oodles of ££s to show off their wealth they then bust the car big time on the track as lots of £££s doesn't = experience.

Cant see the issue for most things.....until I'm asked to part with money to attend an event.

If I pay £20 to attend an event for pre 73 cars It takes the Bananarama! when Saxo's and the latest superbikes are running the 1/4.

As for buying new vs old and buying your way in. If I had the money id have a Hellcat and id run it.......But I enjoy working on cars with moving parts not plastic boxes.
Everyday car...modern.
Fun weekend stuff = Classic please!

If I wanted to go as fast as possible as cheap as possible then you'd have to go modern.......can see both sides.

I belong to alot of clubs modern and classic , the best quote one guy said when I brought my old classic to a modern car show (and got more attention than the modern cars, I might add) he said

"if it were not for you guys in the classics, we would never have the modern ones,nor be motivated to buy one" .

That did say alot,so enjoy the classics, because every one that has a new one,wants an old one ,I can assure you of that

As Blue said, it's an argument that's been going on forever, as well as the one about paying to show your car when your helping increase the size of the show.
They're both arguments that will never be settled though.
Each to their own I suppose.
Personally, I'm not a fan of any new stuff, the youngest car I have is 1993, you can fix old cars without a computer degree, lol.

Found out the other day that the first generation of the BMW Mini is coming up to classic status so they'll be eligible for classic shows soon.

I was at a show up here last year, when the trophies were getting handed out, one of the winners for best engineered was a 2 year old Vauxhall hatchback, big bling wheels, sitting on airbags, boot floor covered in a sheet of Perspex to display amps and woofers etc, as well as a couple dozen Lego figures ( WTF ). The guy accepting the trophy said that they had built it for a customer who had asked them to take it to the show for him!!
Apparently you can now buy a car, have it modified, trailered to a show and win a trophy, all without leaving the comfort of your sofa and sky remote! What's that all about?

I go to as many little local shows as I can these days and I love the older cars. I also appreciate anyone who enjoys any car and takes the time to clean it, work on it and take it to a show for me to have a look at. We are all in one big car club in my opinion and beats watching fans fighting each other at the football!

Sorry Miles, only just spotted your question. Sarah wouldn't have been well enough to make it, I had every intention of coming down but nothing American on the road still and really didn't fancy showing up in a Japanese 4x4, lol.
Would have enjoyed moaning about cars with a beer. Next year though, I'll be there for definite
