Hello
Recently needed a filter
as per usual reached for the PH8A from Fram
and then thought NO....life is too short
so I purchased a Baldwin B2 from a tractor place £8 and a Ford Motorcraft FL-1A or as the Aussies know it an AFL-1 £11 off ebay
both have anti drain back and both will screw on to most mopar engines that have space
The Baldwin has a good reputation in respect to filtration filter surface area and robustness but is constructed the same way as WIX and Fram and many other generic filters.
there were cheaper fileters I could have got OEM 70s Toyota landcruiser and a Borg N Beck replacement for a ford explorer would fit
anyway
I am really quite impressed with the FL-1A
my oil pressure has never been better
it features big holes in the base, pressed not drilled
the thread section is not a pressed in and threaded area of the base metal its a separate part
the base has good retention of the seal
and it was a little heavier than the B2 (which looks identical to a Fram without the rubber easy grip coating)
the anti drain back valve is a thick neoprene disk
the internet says the filtration and flow is good
and the anti drain back seems to work very well. Oil pressure is up within a second or 2
all in all impressed
Mr ford put some time and effort in to make a nice filter.

The Greater Knapweed near the Mugwort by the Buckthorn tree is dying
as far as I am aware a filter that physically screws onto the small block and (hemi 6 before 1974, later had different thread) fits a big block
however I know some engines need a short filter but with the same thread so they don't interfere with clutch headers chassis etc
and these are not short
usual mopar replacement is a Fram PH8A
go here http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=PH8A
click on applications where used and see Chrylser
I can see 400 and 440 in that list up to at least 1970
didn't look up dodge
rule of thumb if it fits a ford explorer - 2001 its the right thread and sealing boss diameter.
in Australia its called a Z9 and the 1974 onwards filter is a z96 its short and has a different thread (you don't want one of them)
