headers on a small block a body with power steering solution

Post by Dart Vader »

Don't know whether any of the fellow a body peeps has posted about this but...

some will know that getting headers to fit with an a body with power steering is a mare.

yes there are headers out there that do fit but they can be pricey.

this fix is based on using flotech or headman headers from real steel or such like.

problem is two fold

main one is clearance of the power steering box the other is the clearance of the steering on the passenger side.

solution

get 4 engine mount shaped shims made, each 6mm thick

on drivers side use two to sandwich the engine mount. this raises the engine to clear the steering box, and steering column joint.

on other side you will need to mark where the tie rods catch the headers or anywhere where it binds. heat the header and bash a couple of flatter edges on the pipes. it doesn't need much. then use one spacer or two if needed on the engine mount.

bingo bango job done.

shims were made for £20 so it's a cheap fix compared to more costly headers, flotechs are 177 quid
