Duster Dash Lights

Post by ChrisN34 »

Hi All, am needing a bit of advice on some electrics. I Have a 71 Duster with the standard Dash. Everything on the dash works correctly apart from the lights except the left turn signal, its the only thing thats lights up. I Replaced the fuse (3amp) under the dash and no difference.

Was wondering if this a common thing, im not too worried about not having dash lights as i dont drive it at night, but i would like to get them working again. Any ideas on what this might be? Bulbs gone etc.

Also, is the Column shift supposed to light up, the small section with the Park, Drive etc?

I Havent removed the dash just yet, but i will do at somepoint, i dont know if it makes any difference but the previous owner did wire up a modern stereo that is now removed.

Cheers
Chris

Chris the only way to find out is to remove and check the PCB for good connection between holders and where the cables come in.

The indicator will have different cable connected to the PCB and the dash light will have one cable connection.

Check all the cables to the connector at the back of the dash, make sure you have power there to the connector before you take the dash out, then check the dash for good contact.

It's possible that all the bulbs have blown, but also possible that the bulb holders are just hanging behind the dash, rather than being plugged into their correct position.
If you've only ever driven it in daylight and never tried the lights at night, the dash lights might all work correctly, they can be very dim. I removed the PCB from mine, cleaned it all ( using lighter fluid and cotton buds ) lightly ( very lightly ) sanded the copper tracks and replaced all the bulbs with LED versions.
Works very well,my of can even tell the dash is lit up in daylight now
