Bottom balljoints

Post by octanejunkie »

Got to do the bottom balljoints on my 73 Charger, they're clonking and wobbling like a good 'un.
They're the threaded type, and require a special socket to undo. I'm literally hemorrhaging money into this car, and to get a socket from the states will cost me the best part of £60.. Anyone got one i could have a lend of for a week or so to do the job.
Be a massive help... :working:

I understand the 73 B body was the last year to have had screw in lower balljoints.

Hopefully somebody has the socket on here you could borrow?

Quiet site these days....... :(

Sorry, just checked my past messages but can't fine the one I need. I used the correct tool, a six foot bar and then they come out ok. Unfortunately these ball joints are specific to 73/74 B bods and the tool,is required.

Looks like another case of gritting my teeth while the website "calculates shipping" then....
Apparently there are three variants of Chrysler screw in ball joints, with a different socket for each. The B body has the middle size one...

Might be worth putting a Wanted advert up first. That's how I got my tool loaned to me. One job I did on mine that I well worth doing (73RR) was the K frame to body bushings. Tightened up the car significantly, torsion bar crossmember has them too. Imagine how much flex those toriosn bars have with the crossmember flexing with worn bushings? Just might be worth getting whilst your paying for the shipping :?

Perhaps, and I may be well off the mark here, try one of those sockets with the receeding pins - basically it will mate to whatever you push into it.
They are available at a reasonable price, and for a one-off job might do the trick .....

I wouldn't trust a tool like that on anything other than a pushbike, I value my knuckles too much! Screw in balljoints need the right tools, you change them with the arm bolted to the car for stability and with a long breaker bar and a lot of swearing.....
