newby has age related questions

Post by ALLAN »

according to the warranty paperwork found in my Polara it was delivered 30-Jan 1970,do I need to get parts for a 1970 year or 1969 ? not sure when the model change is or wether its that important, is there that much difference ? Are there differences to watch out for (69'Waffle Flange 2 thou shorter causing the glove box to eject above 40mph)

Some parts may be age specific, but for that era there any many generic parts; especially the service items.

Hi Alan
I'll wait for the rest to comment
But normally in the us you get next years model in the fall of the preceding year
I.e. 1970 model car will be sold late 69 onwards
Your 1970 will have been built 69 but will be a 70 unless your very unlucky it been lying around for 6 months
Don't think for most mopars then were many mechanical differences between 69 and 70 anyhow

Things like light lenses may be year specific,also some trim items. Most mech parts are going to be the same.

VIN decode or fender tag decode will give you the model year for definite

sixth digit in the VIN is the model year

0 = 1970

9 = 1969

also your fender tag will give you the exact production date

what you need is the parts book

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=107

1969 68 meg

and

1970 100 meg

so I haven't downloaded them at work but I'd guess your car would be featured in both

cross ref a few bits you can see the number on and get an idea

then go here and get 69 and 70 service manual
