Holley help

Hi all,

I have a Holley 0-1850, 650 CFM 4 barrel carb. On the box it states that it's not suitable for 'auto overdrive trannies'. I have a 383 with a 727, can the carb be modified or is it a done deal that it just won't fit/work.

Is it a vac secondary carb? If so it should be fine; bog standard replacement carb.
if its a double pumper let Blue etc.. advise as it's their speciality area.

A carb is a carb and should be fine with manual or auto trans, its just that manufacturers prefer to see vac secs on autos as its easier to tune, match to convertor etc.
I've been through 3 different carbs on my 340. All worked fine, just need some fettling to the kickdown linkage.

1850 holley carb should to be a 600cfm vac secondary and a 727 is not an automatic overdrive trans. so I cant see why it wont work but as miles says just make sure that the kick down linkage is fitted as it adjusts the pressure in the auto box. I had a 1850 on my 440 with a 727 run no problems

I'll check that it's a vac sec. I've got an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm fitted at the moment, but was wondering if putting the holley on
would be an all round 'better option' to use.

Hi the holley would be a lot better for you to work on they are a lot more simple to work on IMO

Why Change nothing wrong with the Edelbrock...also good carbs...
there's hardly very little between the 2 carbs...?

Everyone has preferences. I find Eddys are fine for cruising but are really lacking in upper end power (600cfm), I also had fuel percolation problems with mine albeit with a cast iron manifold. Prefer playing with Holley type carbs and they seem to make more upper end power.
