Wiring a Tach

Hi guys, got a nice fancy Stewart Warner Tach for christmas, the instructions say to use 18 Gauge wire to hook it all up, just wanted to check if its fine to use any 18 Gauge auto electrical wire to hook it all up. Ive seen a few posts on other forums that say to use different coloured wires, i assume its all the same wire just with a different colour plastic cover

18 gauge wire is 18 gauge wire no matter what the colour is. You could wire up the whole car in the same colour wire if you wanted to, but it gets confusing and really hard work when you are trying to trace a fault that's why you don't do it.
