Exhaust mufflers.
I want to beef up the noise on my 73 318 engine. It already has twin pipes, but is still a bit quiet. I had Flowmasters on my Buick and they sounded great, but they're very expensive.
Are there any other mufflers which sound similar, which i could get over here that don't cost the earth?

Here's a Thrush, I was thinking of these for my 318 as well but I'm way off needing them as yet

In the late '70's round here we just used to bolt a pair of Thrush header mufflers to the end of the collectors and leave it at that, now they were loud! You can just about see them here under the doors.

When I first got mine it only had a single Cherry bomb each side exiting just in front of the wheels, stupid loud and horrible to pull away in, I fitted a small silencer in front of each cherry and it transformed the car.
I know what you mean about those Thrush mufflers Blue I thought Flowmaster when I saw them.

They stopped making them over 20 years ago but n.o.s ones occasionally pop up on us eBay.

Yes I am still on the Cherry Bomb stage too,my Van,Jeep and Monte have them on as the only silencing. The Monte has them quite near the front of the system and it has a lovely deep bass to it.Wolfman wrote:Nah just get a pair straight through pipes with cherry bombs at rear, job donelong live the 70's
I will concede though that the Fury has Flowmaster style boxes and that has a delightfully mellifluous sound.
