anyone bothered to tell dvla of an engine swap?

Post by Dart Vader »

gone from 318 to a 360

dvla says to have various proofs of swap, want to be legit

receipt from seller of the engine, nope

insurance valuation, nope, but could get Tony to do it

also on the insurance where do you stand ? what's classed as modified?

seem to recall on my Impala years ago it was listed with RH insurance as modified and that was that

what's everyones experience ?

The Truk had the Rover v8 fitted when I got it 20? years ago. It still has 318 on the log book.

I guess there are two ways to view this.

Whenever we do an Engine Change at the Garage we always send the V5 with the new number or tell the owner to. It is of course like for like so not as much of a change as you describe.

If the paperwork can be collected, where there's a will ;) Then I'd be inclined to declare the change. As a minimum I would tell my insurance company,I know they probably won't check in the event of a claim but it would be a nagging doubt removed in my opinion.

unless its changed quite recently no proof required for a vehicle in the historic tax band.

did this with the S800. they sent a letter saying I needed proof so I rang them to remind them it was historic. they apologised and sent the amended V5 back.

I did when changing from 383 to 440 then again to 512, just to save any hassle!

I just sent off the V5C when going from a 383 to a 493. No grief from the DVLA at all. Next call was to the insurance company . . . that proved to be more expensive :)

I told the insurance company but not DVLA. I think it's a lot easier now to change the engine size on the log book but that has not always been the case.
