Peoples experience with carb build kits

Post by Dart Vader »

So having just forked out 60 odd quid for a genuine Holley carb rebuild kit I just wondered whether people had used the Standard Motor Products ones on Rockauto. It's for a 650DP 1450

I realise the gaskets aren't the blue reusable ones (unless I'm corrected) but apart from that they look the same and are miles cheaper.

I've got another 650DP to rebuild to put on the shelf so I might try one and report back.

But in the meantime anyone chanced one?

Well, if you see the price of a new Holley nowadays, then the gaskets start to look better value.

The Blue gaskets are not always re-usable so don't fall for that one.
They still stick to a degree and have compression marks in them so not that great a deal.

I like new carbs, but they ain't cheap now. Do check the throttle spindles for movement before rebuilding. Maybe too much movement if it's badly worn.

Well that was painless.

Old carb came apart easily. Secondary pump not working at all and squirter blocked.

All cleaned

Reassembled using the holley kit. Dead simple

Highly recommended for peace of mind on the carb and years of trouble free use.

Used vaseline on all gaskets and some threads

Turned out not to be rocket science.

I've got another DP that needs a rebuild so will try a rockauto part

Needs a tune up using vac gauge

Happy days
