Header's

Post by Trigger_Andy »

Not a question realy just my current project.

The Barracuda's exhausts where both blowing at the down pipe's. On further inspection I the flanges on both where rotten and not fixable. So off I went to my Lock-up to rake ont my pacemaker header's. The idea was. R/H/D A body?? Could fit. Well the N/S/F headers went in like a dream! I dident have to remove much, the battery and the spark plug leads. In they pop'd. WooHoo I though, this is well easy. Ill have this done in an hour! Now I know the O/S/F would be a pain and what a pain it is!! There is no way it's gonna fit, Ive jacked the engine up, removed the Alt and the leads. So I came to the conculsion I had to cut up my Pacemakers  It now fit's but guess what?? There's a lump on the block that the header's obstruct on. Im gonna have to either dent the header's or grind off the lump. I think Ill dent the header's. Any way some pic's of my (small) progress to follow! Once I fit the other Header it will be fabrication time. Now that will be fun!!

It would be interesting to see step by step photos if you can because fitting headers to RHD cars is something a lot of members struggle with.

Ill do that Dave. My next headache is that one of the manifold stud holes have been moved!! Due to the last one being stripped!!

can't it be heli-coiled and a new stud inserted?

sounds like an interesting sub-project.

Oh! what joy. Yep had this,r/h side next to bulkhead, managed to re-tap it 3/8 unc and used a bolt. I think the reason they strip is that the holes are open to the water side if the stud comes out the rusty bit takes out the thread :(

I think James Bratby had to cut off that lump in his Aussie Charger to get the headers to fit...

As far as Im aware its only the outside studs that are exposed to the coolant. I did end up filing the lump off, quite easy with a file.
