Ceramic Coating
Want to coat my headers at some point... I'm assuming you can coat used headers even if they are several years old... I found a thread started by Pete I think but it was from several years ago... anyone done it recently? Obviously I want it as cheap as possible but I want it to work at keeping engine bay cool so a good recommendation would be great.

I've not used them myself Dorian but I've heard of this lot and they look like they know what they're doing (hopefully not famous last words)...

As far as I'm aware ceramic coating is expensive wherever you go, I've heard figures of £500 to coat a pair of headers is common. I believe the insides are coated as well so it might be new parts only, you'd have to talk to the supplier. I have no idea how effective it is as a thermal barrier and what kind of temp. drop you might expect to see. I have had my headers and exhaust systems hot aluminium sprayed for years now, a much more cost effective option of keeping rust at bay but I wouldn't say there are any thermal benefits. oh and they shot blast first so used parts no problem.

Hot Aluminium spray coating - cheap as chips, very resilient. Local to Blue and myself.
Camcoat are very good but at least £500, not sure if they do used headers.
I got a quote of £900+ VAT recently from another company and that excluded the Flanges, which they would no do!

I've just used the same people that Robtwin has recommended they charged £330 for a pair of small block headers in satin black that included the extra coat to help with external heat.
They were the only company that seemed to know what they were talking about and very helpful .
They do shot blast first so old or new should be fine - they did a crackin job but I suppose only time will tell??

Dorian,
Just found this interesting article on wrapping and ceramic coating.

Thanks all... I'll call catch and see how much wonger they want! Then probably alucoat them again. I actually was watching this popular hotrodding vid from a few years ago and the thermal properties of the thermally coated headers are quite significant...
Moving house soon so think it'll have to wait till next year maybe anyways...
Birdman, that article is interesting?. Thanks

Have a look at that video in Dorian's post, Blue, I think you'll be surprised at the temperature difference !!Blue wrote:As far as I'm aware ceramic coating is expensive wherever you go, I've heard figures of £500 to coat a pair of headers is common.
