Type of petrol to use ?

Hello Mopar people.
I've just purchased my first Mopar. (December)
A 1967 Barracuda.
It has a 273 engine.
What fuel should I use in it. Unleaded or do I need a lead additive.
Apparently the engine was reconditioned in 2011 but I have no paperwork to say what was done.
I don't know if it has hardened valve guides or not.

Hi Mark.
Welcome aboard.
Unleaded should be fine. I tend to use super unleaded in my vehicles , but purely personal choice. Some run addictives , and I’m sure they will be along to advise.
A high zinc content in your oil , is also recommended for the older engines.

I've been into American cars for about 40 years now.
But I've only had modern cars. This is my first classic Mopar.
I'm just checking to see what fuel to put in.
Just to be on the safe side so I dont end up with leaking valves.

Wouldnt worry about it too much.
American stuff hasnt had lead for ages so unless engine is completely orig (highly unlikely) then its prob OK. Plus if it is orig then its prob due an overhaul anyway.
I worried about this when I first got mine but decided to take the view 'I do 1000 miles a year. If it breaks, which it probably wont, then its an excuse to put faster bits in '
So there ya go - not scientific, but my advice is just make sure the timing isnt pinking, sling some unleaded in and enjoy the thing.

It seems to be a widely held opinion that we just don't do enough mileage in these cars to need to worry about valve seat recession, the whole hardened valve seat thing is a bit of a scare story that keeps on going. File it in the same drawer as the millenium bug...
