A body slant six to v8 conversion
Hi fellas,
Would the k member have to be changed to swop from a 6 to a v8. I know the 6 is slightly wider on the engine mount perches,ie a 6 measures 22 across and a v8 20”. I’m guessing just to make 1” spacers either side of the engine mounts.
Any body done this or any info into the swop appreciated.
Cheers Richard.

Schumacher make conversion mounts to bolt an 8 on a 6 K. Personally I would chock the engine in the correct position and alter the mounts to suit. I made the solid mounts on the Valiant that way.

Might be worth putting up a post in the wanted section? I'm sure someone on here will have a V8 K frame that they keep tripping over?
Failing that there's always the option of getting Ron Fenton @ STS to bring something in if you find a cheap K-member in the states? Check out the Schumacher website. They do conversion mounts. http://www.engine-swaps.com/Pages/Products.html

Motor plate on a small block is hard work, I wouldn't do that unless I really had too.

don't forget
torsion bars on 6s are thin and weedy. get the same size as the Formula s barracuda or thicker.
a v8 engine loom
a v8 throttle cable
v8 wires from starter to solenoid to battery
v8 starter is lower and is therefore further away than the slant 6 starter and the wire will potentially be too short to reach
correct fan and radiator which may be too wide for the mount
and whatever bits you need on the transmission front including a starter motor from the donor.
v8 may also make mincemeat of your rear end, which sounds terrible...
if you have a booster depending on car it might be a squeeze more and issue if its RHD,
RHD and you'd need a remote booster set up and a crazy adaptor for your oil filter.
don't know about steering cross links on US cars do they differ between 6 and 8 ?
if you have power steering the slant 6 pump is a lower pressure pump than the v8 one due to the valving. it would be considered a benefit to have it on the car over the v8 one which will make the steering feel lighter than it does now.
ifs its manual steer i'd doubt you will notice much difference as the slant 6 is a heavy old thing anyway.

Those weedy /6 torsion bars keep the nose down when drag racing
Had them my first Dart which had been changed from six to eight.

Re: A body slant six to v8 conversion
Initially that sounds a good idea blue, but I don’t have any v8 mounting brackets, so the Schumacher mounts are prob the way to go unless somebody has some. Might as well put up a wanted post super sloth, you never know.
It’s deff not going motor plate Pete.
Some good points to consider there Dave cheers, I have most of the v8 stuff, initially it will be man brakes no booster,ps,it’s going v8 sb 727 and is l h d. Although I’m not aware the steering cross links differ from the 6 to the 8.
Cheers Richard.

Re: A body slant six to v8 conversion
V8 centre link is dropped in the centre to clear the oil pan, 6 cylinder link is pretty much straight.
