Hi
Looking for a bit of advice regarding fuel pumps or my ability to mess up when fitting a new one!
So I had the stock fuel pump which was reliable but decided to upgrade to a new Holley (mechanical) one and at the same time I took off the carb and fitted a new accelerator cable and mounting bracket.
Since doing this the bloody thing won’t start!
Trouble is after fitting I’ve had a couple of other issues which has made life difficult to diagnose the problem, firstly the battery gave up on me so I fitted a new one, and also the starter motor decided to pack up, possibly from me over cranking when trying to get the fuel up to the carb.
I’ve checked for spark and have this, I’ve also taken the fuel pipe off the carb and have no fuel, so I swapped the pipes over on the fuel pump to see if that made any difference and it hasn’t. The old pump had a threaded connector and a nipple, the new one was two threaded and one was lower then the other so thought it was logical I could have messed up and put them on the wrong way around.
My drive is on a slope with the back being lower than the front and I had deliberately run the fuel level down but have since added 5ltrs, however I’m going to add more just in case it’s just a lack of fuel? It does try to run on easy start.
Any ideas would be appreciated, I was thinking maybe the fuel sender has given up, but I’m not exactly sure how these work?

Re: Fuel pump troubles
It can take ages for a mechanical pump to draw fuel up to the carb, being on a slope won't help. I tip a small amount of fuel down the carb and fire it up, keep doing that until it will stay running and you should be sorted. Aftermarket mechanical pumps often need a pressure regulator so watch out for a flooding issue which if you have then you need one.

Thanks Blue, I'm hoping it is just something as simple as encouraging the fuel to start coming through. I'll put some more in the tank and tip some in the carb, just a shame it has to wait until next weekend now!
