Had contact from Jeff Hammack, owner of a 68 Barracuda Convertible in the states who actually bought it from a US Serviceman who bought it in the UK and shipped it back in 1980. Jeff bought it in 1981. He is keen to find out how many of these there were and any other info.
I'm sure there are members there who will know about these. I'm assuming they were all sold through Warwick Wright.
This was Jeff's e-mail and he is happy to share the information if anyone can help. I cannot confirm the number made as Jeff asks below.
I am in the USA. My Barracuda was brought here from England by a member of the US Air Force, I think in 1980, I bought it from him in 1981. It was originally, Matador Red outside and white interior. It has the original drive train still installed which is a 318 2v, A904 Automatic Transmission, 3.23 sure grip axle, and the Kelsey Hayes 4 piston caliper front disc brakes. Glass rear window. The car is RHD factory, and has not been tampered with. Still running and driving! Electric over hydraulic top still works! It does not have Formula S badges on it, though the equipment may be the same.
I have heard that cars registered in the UK keep their plates until death by junkyard, is that true? Any chance I could get the original registration number/plate number?
My vin number is BH27F8B276307, I include this in hopes that there is some tracing that you may be able to find with it. Would love to have any information you can find/share with me regarding this vehicle.
I have read an article that mentioned a historian saying that there were only 17 RHD Barracuda Convertibles made in 1968, can you confirm that??

I can't be of much help, I do know all the RHD Barracudas sold in the UK had the Formula S suspension package. I have never seen or heard of a RHD Formula S though, can't say for sure none were built. I can't confirm 1968 RHD Convertible production numbers but it will be low, I have only ever seen about 4 over the years and I can't be certain they were all '68's. I would be including the one Andy Neill took to the States and that might have been a '67?

Re: RHD Barracuda Convertibles in UK & US
I initially thought this might be Andy's but the stories don't match.
From my limited knowledge of these they had the Formula S suspension for the UK market, but weren't badged as such.
It would be great if Jeff could find out the old UK reg of his car, I'm not sure what Warwick Wright records there might be or ever were?

Tony has contacted me and will speak direct to Jeff. Tony is probably THE authority on these RHD cars.
It makes for an interesting story anyhow, with a right hooker back in the US.
