I dont think anyone restores them is this country, i had the one for my 500 done when it was in the states. I need to get my 68 one done, i'm going to send it to the U.S
It cost $165 ( if i rememger correctly) using own core, more if no core

You can get paint from Frost's that looks rather like it. That's the route I will be taking. But then my car isn't a restortation. :)

Paul,

there is a place called Mopar Essentials that does em too, but for $195 with core - $295 without.

How much to send your motor over / get it back and how did the VAT / Customs thing work out?

Sort of fancied stripping / rebuilding it myself as all I have done so far is build the engine. Rebuilding a motor is no problem, its just getting the correct finishes that bothers me.

You can get plating kits from Frost too.

Zinc and whatever. They do a "yellow" plating too that looks quite good.

Many thanks Dave, but for the price of that plating kit I may as well send the darn thing back to the U.S. which on reflection, is what will probably end up happening

Dont know how much it is to send , my motor was already in the states. Brought it back in a car so no duty or vat. Paint from Frosts is good but when you open the hood the first thing you see ( apart from engine which you cant miss) is the wiper motor. Its got to look good if your car is restored & $165 is not to bad for a near enough brand new wiper motor.

Then again Clive. If the plating kit works you could do all ours for us too at a price and make the money back. :D

Clivey, I just put up a wanted add for a wiper motor.

Could you rebuild it and renew all the wiring then?

it cost my ?90 to send the two 4-pot bendix calipers off my charger to s.s.b.c in the states on a 4 day carrier with the post office  , they would weigh a hell of a lot more than a wiper motor, probably 4 times as much and shipping goes on wieght.
when my calipers were ready it cost $70 to ship back (one week)and they marked the item as returned to sender used auto parts- saved the customs, duty and vat on $460 just using their head without me asking :D phoned them up with a BIG thanks :!:
so i would say sending it to the states would not be expensive and just hope you`ve got an understanding guy the other end who can save a fortune by ticking the right box:)

0:02 that yellow stuff is sometimes called yellow zinc or zinc passivation (i think) if that helps you search for a place using a search engine etc .

Jules the wiperman does a great job http://www.wiperman.homestead.com/, he is the Mopar Essentials already mentioned. He knows his stuff, and he is a Mopar guy (this is his car!!)

Mind you, this is all pricey stuff isn't it?? You could be looking at ?200 for a wiper motor!!!! The looky-likey paint would be a much cheaper option and 90% as good.

Or....carry on with Plan A and find someone who can plate it over here - there MUST be platers catering to classic car owners. I confess I haven't been able to find them yet.....but they must be there.
