Post by XP29 »

Apologies if this has been asked umpteen times. Where can I buy black/sliver plastic UK legal rectangle US sized plates from?

You can't, not legal, end of...

"States Plates" are your best bet - I have just done this online for the Challenger and Polara...

You can legally use UK 12x6 black and silver import plates. They’re not as cool as states plates but still look better than standard plates. I will dig out the supplier.

Thanks guys. I’ve ordered states plates, but want the ones Mark is going to link to.

(Side note) Pete, we have registration! 😊

That's a good site, I did not know about that one, however it is almost twice the States Plates prices....

Yes pricey, but they're really good quality plates, I used them on my old 72 Mustang.

Here's a pic of my old car with the plate (sorry for posting a Mustang pic on a MOPAR forum!).

When we registered our Polara in 2004, the first plates we got were the same as those mentioned above, and I got them from Halfords. They had to be ordered (ie not while-u-wait) but only took a couple of days if memory serves.
As I understand it, if the recess size in your bumper is smaller than the standard size, you can fit a smaller licence plate.

That’s correct Rob, as I recall Tony from American Car imports(Dave Wilson Top Methanal Dragster sponsor) campaigned to get the law changed to allow American cars to run american size number plates.

There's this lot as well.

I think about the same price level as the States Plates. Don't know how long they take. I eventually went the States Plates route but it did take quite a while for them to come.
