Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
I have got a few tales to tell so how about this for a start, 71 Hemi Roadrunner one of 55 built. This was back in 1988 and somehow Pete Jordan knew of the car, so off we set to Chudleigh in Devon in the trusty RPM Talbot Express transporter to collect it. To say the owner was a character would be quite an understatement. The plan was to get the car roadworthy again as it had been off the road for many years and that was where the adventure started. I will write up the full story of this car as looking back you couldn’t make it up. These photo’s were taken in the garden of Pete’s house at the time.
Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
Good stuff Martin, will look forward to reading it, always wondered what the story was with that car!SAV@RPM wrote: Mon Dec 31, 18 12:48 pm I will write up the full story of this car as looking back you couldn’t make it up.

Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
I recently purchased this barn find rust free 70 Torino 302, all original car, which has now landed
when looking for cars around the west Chicago area, as I have a friend called AL who checks cars for me in that part of the USA, I came across a local add that happened to be in his home town, bearing in mind that he buys and sells himself as a hobby, as he is a retired garage owner. He had not come across the add and it was email contact only, as usual neither he or I could get a reply
apparently the old boy who owned it used someone's email as he did not do computers.
So he starting asking about and as luck would have it, he new someone that knew the car. He consequently went to look at the car and then realized that he actually used to work on the car when he had the business (Small world innit).
What's funny about it is, if had I not pursued the car from here in the UK it probably would still be for sale right under his nose.
Lucky me
car needs some tlc otherwise is amazing condition apart for the vinyl which is to be replaced

Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
I found this when i was 19 or 20
BBC transcription services concert 666 Nirvana
out of a box of val Doonican, james last and Donald wheres ya trooosers
paid £10
thought i was quids in
naa
Fake Fake Fake no record (pun intended) of disk 666 ever being produced by the BBC
and 666 should have been a clue....
its a nice thing to have but..... its a fake
Also got seriously into Mod parkas at one point. those horrible green tents that were 7 quid from the army and navy store in the 70s suddenly started to cost a bit
picked up a 1948 issue M48 parka for £20 with full Alpaca lining. it makes you sweat. At about 0* C you can wander around wearing it, and a T shirt (and trousers obviously) and still sweat buckets. supposed to be for use only in tundra and arctic regions.
seems kinda wrong to wear a 70 year old coat out to the pub....but i do on occasions....makes the regulars laugh and point
the holy grail is the M48 parka produce in Japan for the US forces stationed there in the 40s/50s white silk lining (real silk).... i'd need to win the lottery....
this is a standard normal lining one for ref https://www.fishtailparkas.com/m1948-fi ... parka.html
leveraged a NOS issued but never worn or washed may 1951 M51 one out of a museum in the US as well, with the US marine corps lining and a real bit of dead coyote on the hood.
had to promise it would only ever be used on display or at worst for re enactment of the korean war???!! yeah cos we love a bit of that in the UK
my promise was convincing.....
But i never speak of these things. i have learnt mainly from Liz my wife that having an strange affection for big stupid green coats makes dave a dull boy
...... if anyone is interested mind i can bore you to tears for at least an hour on the subject M48 M51 M65 MA1 N3B "flyingmans jacket" and the subtleties of each revision

Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
Love it Dave....us men will collect anything and make it interesting. I have a theory that if women collected things and had hobbies, there would be no divorces or wars. Am I allowed to say that? Think I read a few weeks ago that it might be illegal to make any mention of the fairer sex in any conversation about anything.....and its also illegal to think it too....I'll get my parka......

Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
There was a tv series in the very early seventies called Budgie starring Adam Faith. He used to wear short zip up jackets with large lapels and patch pockets in contrasting colours. They became known as Budgie jackets. Anyway my best mate became a bit obsessed and saved up for ages to buy one. He eventually got his wish and went and bought a new one, we were talking about it the other day, he reckoned by the time he got home on the bus they had gone out of fashion.

I remember them!!
A shop in East Barnet sold them, but I could not afford one.
Got a cheap look-a-like from C&A - they went to the wall long ago....

Re: YOUR INTERESTING FINDS,,
My Bro is 4 yrs older than me so he got all the fashion stuff before me he was in to Slade so had the platform shoes, I was pretty big and only a bit smaller in the feet department than him so one day I thought it would be cool to go school in his platforms, on the way home me n some mates were playing football and cut across a grass area called the razzer which ended directly on quite a busy road, I gave the ball a mega Malcom McDonald bootfull and the platform shoe shot of my foot flew through the air and landed on the road,
you guessed it a Bananarama! car drove over it and burst the heel off the shoe
oh no I gotta face big bro,,,,,,,,, incidents like that was quite regular between us ha ha,,,,,,,
Budgie jackets and shirts yep my bro,s mates dad worked the rigs and used to send this kid Dave Tarry lots of loot home the fker had a purple chopper a budgie jacket and them Zip up cardies in bright colours also with stars n stuff on them. the in shop in Crewe,s west end was smc glorious times fella,s. I have a major connection to the period and look back on a very happy era, I think a lot was because me mum n Dad split up I could just do what I wanted as my old fella worked nights or 2-10 then went the pub,, so I had it so free,

I brought this from the back studio door at pinewood was screwed to the studio wall on the robot wars set
After research with the MOD it’s the only JTV-1 left in existence.
Apparently the first thing in the world to travel over Mach 2
Currently working with the london Science museum on a display / loan deal
